The southern resistance forces the legitimacy and pro-Al-Ahmar elements to cancel a military parade in Aden

The southern resistance forced today the legitimate government to cancel a parade at the military college in Salah al-Din camp, west Aden. The parade was scheduled to mark the graduation of new batches of military academies and institutes, but it confined to an indoor ceremony in a medium-sized hall, amid a reluctance of a large number of graduates.

The southern resistance stationed in the mountains overlooking the military college, launched an armed attack on Yemeni flag raising sites near the podium and military parade ground with a view to taking them down. The attack was followed by an exchange of fire and armed clashes between the Special Security Forces and the southern resistance.

The two-hour clashes resulted in the death of one of the graduates and the injury of at least three of his colleagues and caused a state of chaos among the two thousand graduates. The military commanders left right after the armed clashes ceased.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Eng. Ahmed Al-Misri, Deputy Chief of General Staff, Major General Saleh Al-Zindani,  commander of the Fourth Military Region, Major General Fadl Hassan al-Omari, and a number of government officials and military and security commanders were scheduled to attend the ceremony.

A source at the military college exclusively told "Aden Press" that what happened today was expected, it is similar to what happened on the same occasion last year, expressing his regret over the recurrence of such events.

The source held the elements loyal to the Vice President of the Republic, General Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar -the arms of the Brotherhood and Qatar in legitimacy- responsible for the incident, by their insistence on a provocative move to raising the flag of Yemen, as part of their efforts to thwart any presence of the military college in Aden and to transfer it to Marib.

The same source confirmed that it was agreed to hold a graduation ceremony without raising any flag to Yemen or the South and to only raise the flags of the military college, what happened was contrary to the agreement, it was a kind of challenge and a breach.

He pointed out that southern elements came on Friday evening to Salah al-Din camp requesting the ceremony organizers to abide by the agreement and they came again on Saturday morning to the camp to renew the same request, however, they did not abide by the agreement which pushed the resistance to resort to force to counter any challenge and provocation to the southern will and to the resistance that presented convoys of martyrs, wounded, prisoners and detainees in the course of its peaceful and armed struggle.

General Aidroos Al-Zubaidi President of the Southern Transitional Council Reveals Crucial Points on the Current Situation

President of the Southern Transitional Council, Maj. Gen. Aidroos Qassim Al-Zubaidi revealed clearly the crucial  conditions of the people of the capital Aden and the South in conjunction with the approaching date of the first rounds of UN-sponsored Yemeni talks in Geneva on the 6th of next September.

Al-Zubaidi said  in an interview on the program "Yemen in a Week" on Abu Dhabi TV on Friday that the people have the right to protest, adding that protests took place as a result of the deteriorating state of the national income which affects people’s daily living conditions . The fall of the local currency against the dollar and the government's corruption is a main cause for such conditions. The people in Aden have no sources of income except their salaries, which does not last for a week because of high prices in addition to that they receive it every 3 or 4 months.  People will not surrender and just lay there and die of hunger in their homes. Therefore we will defend and support the people and their shouts for change by all means. He explained that the KSA has pumped large amounts of cash into the Central Bank of Yemen in an attempt to support the financial situation but what has happened was quite the opposite , the Yemeni Rial's value has drastically fallen saying ,"This is a very strange equation!".

Al-Zubaidi confirmed that the STC totally supports the peaceful demonstrations and strikes which the people of the south practice to express their demands . Making it clear that the Council has warned ,when a Coalition security committee came to Aden ,that the government is torturing the people and that it needs to step down. He stressed that the Transitional Council is not a governing body and does not have the resources to fulfil the peoples demands adding that the legitimacy is responsible for everything, it has resources and institutions.

He continued: "Our cause exists before  'Decisive Storm' opperation, we will waver in our cause and our political rights, whatever the circumstances may be, independence and restoring the Southern State is the solution , adding "We put our hands in the hands of President Abdurbo Mansour Hadi and not the current government, provided that the Arab Coalition is a guarantor, to change people's living conditions.

Al-Zubaidi called for a new Gulf initiative to deal with the new reality, pointing out that without the southern resistance and the Transitional Council everything will collapse and ignoring the southern cause will not lead to a solution. He expressed the STC and the Southerners  appreciate the efforts of the Arab Coalition, stressing their stand with them in halting the Iranian expansion.

He noted that the STC was not disturbed by the meeting of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council with the Yemeni government, pointing that excluding the STC will only lead to failure. He touched on the invitation of the UN envoy Martin Griffiths and his meeting with representatives of the STC, in which they explained to him that marginalizing the Southern issue will be a major reason for his failure as it was the case with the former envoys.

Al-Zubaidi confirmed that those who are manipulated by Iran and Qatar will not be part of the political process, adding that any northern resistance factor which will fight against the Houthis will have the support and backing of the STC until Sana is liberated. At that point  we will have our South and they can have their North.

Al-Zubaidi confirmed that  if we wanted to be in power, we would not have left our positions and if we wanted to control the south, it would not be difficult. We sacrificed  thousands of  martyrs and tens of thousands of  our wounded are still  in their homes without care, we will not give up the goals for which we sacrificed a lot .Our people are in a very bad living conditions and if the situation continues the people will have to defend themselves and their rights. People will not be subjected to terrorism in anyway. There are elements from the legitimacy that support the return of terrorist groups to Aden and the South , we are observing the situation and following their patterns of their operation.

Another Evidence of Cooperation Between Islah (Muslim Brotherhood) and Houthis

The crime committed on Thursday by the al-Houthi militia against the people of Hodeidah, west of Yemen, confirmed beyond any doubt the extent of media cooperation between pro-Qatar Islah party and the pro-Iran Houthi militia.

The crime committed by the Houthi militia just a few hours before the UN Security Council held its meeting, in which the international envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths presented his briefing, Its purpose was to influence the conduct of the meeting and to propitiate public opinion by connecting the Arab Coalition to this crime, taking advantage of the military moves on the West Coast to resume the battle for Hodeidah, which suspended to give international efforts a last chance to persuade the militias to withdraw from the city and its port.

The media machine of Islah party, especially the pro-Qatar wing contributed to spreading black propaganda on the alleged Coalition air raids on Al-Thawra Hospital and the fish market in the city of Hodeidah, killing and injuring hundreds of people.

Islah activists, especially those who are in Turkey and Qatar, started right after the pre-organised criminal incident, to depict it as if it was committed by the Arab Coalition, some even went on to fabricate fake stories of eyewitnesses to support this claims.

What is surprising is that the Islah activists circulated these allegations more widely than the Houthi militias that their media outlets inadvertently uncover the plot and expose the real criminal, which was confirmed on Friday night, by the spokesman for the Arab Coalition Forces in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al Malki,  that the attack on Al-Thawra hospital was carried out with mortars of al-Houthis.

Pushing Al-Qaeda out of Yemen Impossible Due to Its Ties with Government

The US flagship news outlet of The Globe Post published an article by the member of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Southern Transitional Council in Washington, Ahmed Muthana and it reads as follow:

Five days after President Donald J. Trump took office, he directed his first military action against the al-Qaeda group in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), considered to be one of al-Qaeda’s most dangerous branches. Despite the attempts to push al-Qaeda out of Yemen and the American drone operations aimed at degrading AQAP, all efforts have been less than fruitful.

Separatists from the Southern Resistance Forces, backed by the U.S. and the United Arab Emirates, managed to defeat the terrorist group in most of south Yemen. However, the al-Qaeda branch is stronger than ever in the north of the country.

For the legitimate government of President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, cutting ties with AQAP is an almost impossible mission. The government takes advantage of the shared Sunni background with al-Qaeda to push them for the fight against the Iran-backed Shiite Houthis.

This means that al-Qaeda is engaged in every step of the process of liberating Yemen from the Houthis. It makes talking about a future Yemen without terror groups impossible. AQAP is burrowing deeper into the country every day.

Ties Between Government and AQAP

The reason why it’s impossible to defeat al-Qaeda in Yemen today is the deep coordination on the ground between AQAP and Al-Islah, the Muslim Brotherhood’s party in the country. Al-Islah is a crucial part of the Yemeni government.

The links between Al-Islah and Al-Qaeda go far back, and senior Al-Islah leader Abdul Majeed al-Zindani played a vital role in the bridge between the two parties. In 2004, the U.S. government labeled him as “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” for his ties with al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden. When the Yemeni army was about to start an offensive against al-Qaeda in Abyan in southern Yemen in 2012, Al-Zindani called for a halt. The Al-Islah leader is a close ally of President Hadi.

According to Mareb Press, a news outlet loyal to the government, Hadi met with Al-Zindani in 2018 and described him as “the heir of the Prophet.” During the meeting, Hadi insisted for Al-Zindani to play a more prominent preaching role in Yemen, which would generate more violent thinking in the region.

Ties Between Army and AQAP

Another reason why it is unlikely AQAP will be defeated are the ties between Yemeni General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar and the organization. Al-Ahmar is the most senior general of the Yemeni army in charge of all decisions on the ground in North Yemen. Since 2016, he is also the country’s vice president.

In 2005, the U.S. embassy in Yemen raised a red flag about Al-Ahmar’s trips to Afghanistan and meetings with Bin Laden in the 1980s. In the U.S., Al-Ahmar is believed to have played a key role in the relocation of large groups of al-Qaeda fighters from Afghanistan to Yemen. Al-Ahmar resettled many terrorists that were banned from going back to their countries in Yemen.

That an individual with a long history of friendship with AQAP is leading the country’s army, makes it is no surprise that terrorist group is not defeated in the north yet.
Is Al-Islah a Terrorist Group?

Weeks ago, the U.S. Congress held a hearing to examine the possibility of designating the Muslim Brotherhood party as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization.” The hearing resulted in the compromise that the Congress will go through case by case and only designate the radical Muslim Brotherhood branches.

Al-Islah, the group’s party in Yemen, is one of the most radical Muslim Brotherhood parties and the U.S. should, therefore, designate them as a terrorist organization. Al-Islah is deeply affiliated with AQAP.

Many Yemeni youths who carried out suicide bombings had political affiliations with the Al-Islah party, and leaders like General Al-Ahmar trained part of them.

Letting Al-Islah take over territory in Yemen generates wealth and resources for their ally AQAP to carry out more terror attacks. Daily incidents indicate that bombings and terrorist attacks are executed with professional planning and coordination between Al-Islah and AQAP.

Until this moment, a number of places under the control of the Al-Islah party embrace the leadership of terrorist groups, especially AQAP, particularly in Marib, al-Baida, and Taiz.

It does not look like AQAP will be defeated in north Yemen anytime soon. While IS was defeated in Syria and Iraq, a new chapter of the caliphate is breaking out in north Yemen, where the Al-Islah party lives in harmony with al-Qaeda.

This scary scene in the north makes people in the south even more focused on having the right to determine their destiny. The south fought against AQAP, even in north Yemen, but today it is believed fighting AQAP makes no sense since the group has the backing of a government with international political recognition.

In south Yemen, a high price was paid to build a democratic, egalitarian society with a free market and a significant role for women. We believe that we have our own culture and lifestyle that contradicts the presence of extremism or Islamic political groups. We in the south accept diversity, and we will never consider AQAP as a friend just because of our mutual Sunni background.

Who is Behind Collapse of Yemeni Riyal

Waddah Ben Atia

Southern Writer

Those who observe stages of the collapse of Yemeni Riyal will find out that it is a systematic work according to plans of legitimacy powers. Before transferring the Central Bank of Yemen from the control of Al-Houthi to the control of legitimacy, Yemeni Riyal decreased from 57 to 65 in exchange with Saudi Riyal. Yemeni Riyal remained on the level of 60 to 65 for two years. The militias spent all the hard currency reserve on what they called “military effort”.
When the legitimacy decided to transfer the Central Bank of Yemen from Sanaa to Aden, Saudi Riyal prices doubled while Yemeni Riyal dropped to 50% to reach 140 Yemeni Riyals in exchange of Saudi Riyal.
The question is: Why did Yemeni Riyal drop after the transfer of Central Bank? The main cause was printing billions of Riyals in Russia without hard currency coverage. It is also noticeable that with every return of a legitimacy leader to Aden, the currency drops while large sums of money are payed for officials and followers without monitoring.
Such acts increase prices of hard currency in the market as officials and their relatives and followers take money from the bank and head too black market to buy hard currency.
In addition to the war, drop of exports, mutiny of Al-Houthis and Muslim Brotherhood and their refusal to transfer taxes from Mareb and Sanaa to Aden, the main cause of currency collapse is undoubtedly corruption of the legitimacy.

Yemeni government delivers memo in reply to UN Envoy to Yemen's proposals to end war

Ahmed Obaid bin Dagher, Prime Minister of Yemen, delivered a written memo to the UN Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, in reply to proposals he had earlier presented to President Abdrabboh Mansour Hadi of Yemen during his 10th July visit to Aden.

Bin Dagher handed over the reply to Martin Griffith during a meeting in Riyadh on Sunday, reported the Yemen's news agency.

In his letter, Bin Dagher confirmed his government's commitment to a fair and comprehensive peace, according to the references parallel to the commitment of the Iran-backed Houthi militias withdrawal from the capital, Sanaa, and other cities, thus, abdicating power in the capital for the legitimate government and handing over weapons to the State.

He underscored the importance of the Iran-backed Houthi militia showing goodwill before the start of any future consultations by releasing all prisoners of war and those abducted, and assisting in providing access to humanitarian and relief assistance to the needy in all governorates.

He confirmed that the reasons behind the current crisis in Yemen is, clearly speaking, the usurping of the legitimate power and the State, drawing to attention that the legitimate government is an aggrieved party of this conflict by the Houthi militias.

He demanded that the UN to announce the rejection of the coup as null and void, adding that his government has a long practice of providing full assistance to the efforts of the UN to stop the war, while the Houthi militias, backed by Iran, managed to play fast and loose, and obstinate, leading to the failed endeavours of former UN envoy Ismail Ould Alchiekh.

Bin Dagher cited the Houthi militias’ latest rejection to withdraw from Al-Hodeida city, even though it would protect civilians from the repercussions of a street war, noting that the matter has now left in the hands of their supporters in Iran, who do not care to place the lives of Yemenis in danger and blackmail Yemen's neighbours, as well as the world community, as part of their expansionist project to control the Bab Al-Mandab Strait and threaten the safety and security of international navigation.

He reiterated, according to Yemen's news agency, his call to the UN to mount pressure on Iran to stop its interference in Yemeni affairs, providing the Houthis with weapons, including ballistic missiles, and coercing it to show commitment to international laws.

The UN envoy lauded the efforts of the Yemeni government in support of the peace process, and its sincere will to reach a peaceful solution, given its responsibilities towards Yemen and the Yemeni people.

Griffith expressed satisfaction over the ideas presented by the Yemeni government on ways to resume peace negotiations.

He said the UN will work over the coming days to consult with all parties to explore possible visions and ideas, in compliance with peace proposals, in addition to taking into account the humanitarian aspects for the affected Yemenis.
